   Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 492
   NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   335 PM MDT Sun Jun 30 2024

   The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

   * Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of 
     Southwest into Central Montana

   * Effective this Sunday afternoon and evening from 335 PM until
     800 PM MDT.

   * Primary threats include...
     Scattered damaging winds and isolated significant gusts to 75
       mph possible
     Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2
       inches in diameter possible

   SUMMARY...Widely scattered to scattered thunderstorms are forecast
   to continue to develop over southwest Montana and move
   east-northeast into central Montana late this afternoon into the
   evening.  A couple of supercells are possible initially with an
   attendant risk for large hail (1 to 2 inches in diameter) and severe
   gusts.  Upscale growth into a linear thunderstorm cluster is
   expected by early evening as storms move into the eastern parts of
   the Watch.  Severe gusts 60-75 mph will be possible with this
   activity.

   The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 60
   statute miles north and south of a line from 35 miles west southwest
   of Bozeman MT to 50 miles north northeast of Billings MT. For a

   PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

   REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
   favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
   Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
   weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
   warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
   tornadoes.

   AVIATION...A few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft to
   2 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 65 knots. A
   few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 450. Mean storm motion vector
   24040.
