   Mesoscale Discussion 0742
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   1010 PM CDT Tue May 25 2021

   Areas affected...west Texas

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 204...

   Valid 260310Z - 260415Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 204
   continues.

SUMMARY...Threat for isolated large hail and downburst winds will
persist next couple hours across portions of west TX. WW 204 is
scheduled to expire at 04Z, but a local extension might be needed
for a portion of the WW.

DISCUSSION...Storms continue developing along the east-west oriented
boundary across the northern TX Panhandle with some backbuilding
noted with the westernmost storm. These storms remain organized as
supercells with hail in excess of 2.5 inches recently reported. The
surface layer is stabilizing, and convective inhibition is
increasing. However, forcing associated with a strengthening
southerly low-level jet interacting with the boundary might help to
sustain these storms for another 1-2 hours.

Farther south, a cluster of widely scattered storms persist in the
area between Lubbock and Abilene. Tendency has been for these storms
to expand northeastward along an outflow boundary, but general trend
has been for most of this activity to weaken slightly. It is
probable that at least a couple of storms will persist beyond 04Z,
especially the activity just south of Abilene that appears to be
   more organized.
