Mesoscale Discussion 0663
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0308 PM CDT Thu May 05 2022
Areas affected...Parts of eastern Texas...northwestern Louisiana and
southeastern Arkansas
Concerning...Tornado Watch 181...
Valid 052008Z - 052215Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 181 continues.
SUMMARY...Organizing thunderstorm activity posing a risk for
potentially damaging wind gusts and a couple of brief tornadoes
remains possible through 6-7 PM CDT.
DISCUSSION...An initial developing mesoscale convective vortex has
become better defined across the Texarkana AR area, and appears
likely to continue to migrate east-northeastward toward Pine Bluff
AR through 22-23Z. A bowing segment evident in radar reflectivities
to its south has shown recent weakening trends. However, isolated
supercell structures developing near a trailing outflow boundary now
just south of Shreveport LA may be maintained another couple of
hours by inflow from a lingering narrow corridor of moderately large
mixed-layer CAPE south of Shreveport through the Monroe LA vicinity.
Otherwise, deep-layer shear remains strong farther to the southwest,
and a clustering of storms now north of College Station TX may still
intensify further and organize, aided by inflow of seasonably moist
air with moderately large CAPE. This could pose increasing risk for
potentially damaging wind gusts and perhaps a brief tornado or two
across the Huntsville and Lufkin TX vicinities during the next
couple of hours.
