Mesoscale Discussion 0629
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0820 PM CDT Mon May 02 2022
Areas affected...portions of south-central and eastern Oklahoma
Concerning...Tornado Watch 171...
Valid 030120Z - 030245Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 171 continues.
SUMMARY...Risk for locally severe storms -- including the
possibility of a tornado or two -- continues across existing
portions of Tornado Watch #171.
DISCUSSION...Latest radar loops shows a complex/broken line of
storms extending from the Tulsa area southwestward to near Lawton.
Several complex structures are indicated with updrafts within this
band, including a well-developed supercell moving across Seminole
County in central Oklahoma that appears to have produced a tornado
within the past half hour.
Expect the convection -- and associated severe risk -- to continue
over the next 1 to 2 hours, with some of the convection eventually
expected to move into Tornado Watch 172 currently in effect from
eastern Oklahoma into central Arkansas. Meanwhile farther to the
west, convection -- and at least some hail/damaging wind risk --
will likely expand south of WW 171, possibly requiring some
consideration for a new severe thunderstorm watch.
