   Mesoscale Discussion 1600
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK

Areas affected...from central Pennsylvania to Long Island...northern
   Maryland and Delaware

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 457...459...

   Valid 272235Z - 280030Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 457, 459
   continues.

SUMMARY...A line of storms should persist for several more hours as
it moves across Pennsylvania, and possibly into Maryland, Delaware
and New Jersey with damaging wind gusts the main threat. Other
storms may translate south/southwest across Long Island and into
   northern New Jersey.

DISCUSSION...A line of storms continues to rapidly move
east/southeast into central PA, with strong wind gusts reported.
Meanwhile, another zone of storms, some elevated above an outflow
boundary, persists from southern NY to Long Island.

In between these two areas of storms, the air mass has become very
warm with temperatures in the 90s F. Surface analysis indicates a
theta-e axis roughly from northern VA into NJ, where dewpoints
   remain in the 70s F.

West/northwest flow aloft and an unstable air mass should allow the
line of storms over PA to persist, possibly bringing strong wind
gusts into parts of MD and DE. The zone of storms across NY and Long
Island, though producing undercutting outflow, may effectively
translate south/southwest as new updrafts form along and north of
the outflow boundary. Given the unstable environment over NJ,
further damaging wind gust may occur as cells train along the
   northwest/southeast oriented outflow-reinforced front.
