Mesoscale Discussion 0863
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1147 PM CDT Sun Jun 06 2021
Areas affected...Southern TX Panhandle/TX South Plains
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 240...
Valid 070447Z - 070615Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 240
continues.
SUMMARY...Threat for strong wind gusts and isolated large hail will
continue across the southern TX Panhandle for at the next 2 hours.
DISCUSSION...Recent radar imagery has begun to show a bit quicker
forward progression with the line of storms north of LBB in the
southern TX Panhandle. Storm motion is still only around 20-25 kt
but persistent southeasterly low-level flow and strong instability
downstream suggest the potential for additional
organization/strengthening remains. Thunderstorms south of LBB are
organizing along the same outflow and have also recently exhibited
similar forward propagating characteristics. Large hail remains
possible, but the primary threat has now shifted to strong wind
gusts.
The downstream air mass continues to undergo nocturnal
stabilization, but convective inhibition does appear weak enough to
allow the ongoing storms to continue. The overall expectation is for
the ongoing storms to persist for at least the next 2 hours as they
move eastward across the southern TX Panhandle toward northwest TX.
