   Mesoscale Discussion 2147
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0103 AM CST Tue Nov 12 2019

Areas affected...portions of central and northern NY into far
   northwest VT

   Concerning...Heavy snow

   Valid 120703Z - 121200Z

SUMMARY...Moderate to heavy snowfall is expected through the early
morning hours across parts of central and northern NY into far
   northwest VT.

DISCUSSION...Light to moderate snow is currently falling across the
Mohawk Valley vicinity to the Adirondack Mountains and far northwest
VT. Increasing forcing for ascent ahead of the Great Lakes trough
and strong frontogenesis in the 850-700 mb layer will be the primary
drivers of snowfall rates through the early morning hours. Lower
elevations could see rates approaching 1 in/hr in heaviest snow
bands. Over the last hour or so, evidence of terrain enhanced
snowfall rates has been evident on the KTYX radar from eastern
Oneida to Hamilton Counties. This could result in some locations in
the vicinity of the Adirondack Mountains seeing greater snowfall
rates (1+ in/hr at times) where upslope flow further enhances lift
   through the dendritic growth layer.

By 11-13z, forecast RAP soundings and deterministic guidance shows
influence of warm conveyor belt processes shifting east of the area
and snowfall rates should diminish toward sunrise.
