   Mesoscale Discussion 2140
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   1150 PM CDT Thu Oct 31 2019

   Areas affected...far southern New York...Long Island...western
   Massachusetts and Connecticut

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 691...

   Valid 010450Z - 010615Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 691
   continues.

SUMMARY...Strong to locally severe gusts may persist into parts of
western Massachusetts and Connecticut, but additional watches are
   not expected.

DISCUSSION...A strongly forced line of storms continues to move
rapidly east across NJ and far southern NY, and will affect parts of
Long Island as well as western MA and CT. Surface observations
indicate relatively cool surface air ahead of the line, with little
   if any MUCAPE present.

That said, surface analysis shows an impressive rise/fall couplet,
with this line of higher reflectivity. Given 70 kt southerly winds
not too far off the surface, locally damaging wind gusts may occur,
even if the precipitation lacks lightning.
