NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK

Areas affected...far northeast Virginia into central Maryland and
   Delaware

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 258...

   Valid 270226Z - 270400Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 258
   continues.

SUMMARY...Isolated damaging wind gusts remain possible with some of
the stronger storms in the near term, but a downward trend in
convective intensity suggests that the severe threat is subsiding to
   a degree.

DISCUSSION...KDOX radar depicts semi-discrete storms merging into a
single quai-linear cluster across central Maryland, towards the
Delaware border. Cold pool development associated with these cell
mergers in a weak low-level sheared environment has allowed
convective outflow to outrun the leading edge of the developing
convective line. In the short term, the more intense downdrafts may
still produce isolated damaging wind gusts. Otherwise, convective
outflow will likely continue to undercut convection, and with
nocturnal boundary layer stabilization, storms should continue to
gradually weaken with time as they approach Atlantic Coast.
