   Mesoscale Discussion 0547
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK

   Areas affected...west Texas

   Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 132...133...

   Valid 052314Z - 060045Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 132, 133
   continues.

SUMMARY...Isolated supercells capable of producing very large hail,
locally damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes will persist next
   few hours.

DISCUSSION...Early this evening isolated storms that developed along
the dryline have matured across west Texas with several supercells
in progress. The atmosphere in this region is strongly unstable with
2000-3000 J/kg MLCAPE, steep mid level lapse rates and
effective-bulk shear of 40-50 kt. The Lubbock VWP adjusted for
southeast winds south of the outflow boundary indicate sufficient
0-1 km storm relative helicity for low-level mesocyclones, and
further enlargement of the hodograph is likely as the low-level jet
increases. These factors along with unimpeded moist inflow suggest
the supercell south of Lubbock might remain capable of producing
occasional tornadoes during the next hour. With time, storm and
outflow boundary interactions may contribute to some upscale growth
to lines and clusters as activity develops east.
