Mesoscale Discussion 0734
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0336 PM CDT Tue May 16 2017
Areas affected...Eastern TX/Ok panhandles...Western OK
Concerning...Tornado Watch 220...
Valid 162036Z - 162130Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 220 continues.
SUMMARY...Tornado threat should increase across the eastern TX
Panhandle over the next few hours.
DISCUSSION...Boundary-layer lapse rates are steepening along the
immediate moist side of the dry line as considerable breaks in cloud
cover are noted across the eastern TX Panhandle. As surface
temperatures warm, buoyancy is increasing across moist upslope
regions of the southern High Plains. Over the last half hour or so,
convection has markedly increased from Briscoe County to Gray
County. It appears discrete supercells should mature across this
region over the next few hours and attendant tornado threat should
increase, especially along/north of a boundary draped from Childress
County to Armstrong County.
