Valid 012305Z - 020030Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 578 continues. SUMMARY...A cluster of supercells with large hail and severe wind gusts will continue southeast this evening. DISCUSSION...A cluster of supercells has developed along and slightly ahead of a surface low and cold front across eastern Montana and western North Dakota. The strongest supercell, along the McKenzie and Mountrail county line, appears to be tracking along the cold front as it drifts south. The southward progression of this cold front, combined with an increasingly unstable airmass across southern North Dakota, should keep this activity ongoing well after sunset. Additional thunderstorms may develop over the next 1 to 2 hours south of the surface low across eastern Montana where high-based cumulus can be seen on visible satellite imagery. Very high dewpoint depressions in this region will support some strong downdrafts, but weak shear and limited instability should mitigate a more organized severe weather threat from any storms which develop in this region. ..Bentley/Grams.. 08/01/2023 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product...
