Valid 122254Z - 130030Z The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 23 continues. SUMMARY...The damaging wind and tornado threat will continue this evening across the Carolinas. An additional tornado watch may be needed across central North Carolina. DISCUSSION...A broken line of storms has produced sporadic damaging wind gusts across eastern Tennessee, Georgia, and western North Carolina/South Carolina. Recent observations continue to show near severe (40-50 knot) wind gusts from many observing stations despite weakening instability with eastern extent. Therefore, expect a damaging wind threat to continue east through the evening before eventually weakening as storms ingest a drier airmass near the coast (40sF dewpoints). In addition, southerly surface winds beneath a 50 knot southwesterly low-level jet, will continue to support some tornado threat, but this should also be mitigated by the decreasing instability. Therefore, the damaging wind/tornado threat is expected to persist through the evening, and could necessitate a watch for portions of central North Carolina, before this line of storms becomes non-severe tonight. ..Bentley/Hart.. 01/12/2023 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product...
