Mesoscale Discussion 0693
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1151 PM CDT Sun May 08 2022
Areas affected...Parts of central/eastern ND
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 090451Z - 090645Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent
SUMMARY...A few strong storms are possible overnight, with isolated
hail possible.
DISCUSSION...Scattered strong storms are ongoing across parts of
central/eastern ND at 0445Z, with a cluster northeast of Bismarck
showing some modest signs of organization. This activity is ongoing
within a plume of modest buoyancy (MUCAPE of 500-1000 J/kg), with
sufficient effective shear to support some continued storm
organization. With relatively cold temperatures aloft (around -20C
at 500 mb), isolated hail is expected to be the primary threat,
though a strong wind gust cannot be ruled out with any
upscale-growing cluster.
Due to the relatively isolated and marginal nature of the threat,
watch issuance is considered unlikely at this time.
