Mesoscale Discussion 0647
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0611 PM CDT Wed May 04 2022
Areas affected...Central into eastern Oklahoma
Concerning...Tornado Watch 176...
Valid 042311Z - 050045Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 176 continues.
SUMMARY...An increase in storm coverage is expected this evening
given current visible satellite trends and an expected increase in
mid-level forcing. Large/very-large hail and tornadoes, possibly
strong, are the expected hazards.
DISCUSSION...Convective showers have increased in central Oklahoma
over the past two hours. More recently a supercell has
matured/intensified in Pottawatomie County. These trends on visible
satellite suggest that additional storms are possible over the next
1-2 hours. KTLX VWP data shows over 300 m2/s2 SRH. Later this
evening, the low-level jet is also expected to focus and increase
into this region. Tornado potential with mature storms will increase
this evening. Depending on how many storms can initiate, some storm
interactions are possible. However, any of the more dominant
supercells will be capable of large/very-large hail and tornadoes --
some potentially strong.
