Mesoscale Discussion 1469
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0605 PM CDT Sun Jul 14 2019
Areas affected...Portions of far eastern ND/SD into MN
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 508...
Valid 142305Z - 150030Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 508
continues.
SUMMARY...Large hail and damaging wind potential will continue
across Severe Thunderstorm Watch 508. A brief tornado also remains
possible.
DISCUSSION...Renewed convection associated with a MCV has moved from
far eastern ND/SD into parts of central MN. Moderate to strong
instability is present downstream of these storms, with a veering
wind profile modestly strengthening through mid levels. Both large
hail and damaging winds will remain possible with the strongest
cores in the short term. Some clustering of storms has recently
occurred in central MN, and there is some chance for a small forward
propagating cluster to develop southeastward along the axis of
greatest instability over the next hour or two. Damaging winds would
become a somewhat greater threat if this scenario materialized. In
addition, a brief tornado cannot be ruled out given some low-level
enhancement to the flow associated with the remnant MCV now over
west-central MN.
