Mesoscale Discussion 0678
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0713 PM CDT Sat May 18 2019
Areas affected...portions of central into southeast TX
Concerning...Tornado Watch 184...
Valid 190013Z - 190115Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 184 continues.
SUMMARY...Main severe threat is shifting northeast of WW 184 into
east-central TX. A more conditional threat may persist across parts
of central into southeast TX this evening, but further convective
development is uncertain.
DISCUSSION...Severe thunderstorms are mainly confined to the
northeast boundary of WW 184, heading northeast into east-central TX
and into downstream WW 189. To the south/southwest, there has been
some deepening of shallow convection across central TX, where a very
unstable and moist airmass resides. However, ascent across this area
is weak and the dryline remains well west of the region.
Additionally, latest CAMs do not develop convection across the
Edwards Plateau vicinity. As such, confidence is low as far as
severe threat going forward this evening, and will be rather
conditional on any new development. If more robust convection is
able to develop, all severe hazards will remain possible, but large
hail would be the main threat. A new watch or extension of current
watch beyond 01z expiration time is possible, but uncertain at this
time.
