Mesoscale Discussion 0926
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0523 PM CDT Thu Jun 28 2018
Areas affected...Far East-Central ND...Central MN..Far Northwest WI
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 233...
Valid 282223Z - 290000Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 233
continues.
SUMMARY...Threat for hail and damaging wind gusts remains possible
across east-central MN and far northwest MI.
DISCUSSION...Ongoing pair of supercells southwest of DLH continue to
progress southeastward along the warm front draped across the
region. KDLH imagery shows the outflow accelerating ahead of each of
these supercells, particularly the lead storm. Even so, updrafts
within these storms remain strong and capable of producing severe
hail and damaging wind gusts. Second supercell has recently shown an
increase in forward motion, suggesting the potential for a
transition to a more linear mode to occur soon, possibly augmented
by the outflow from the lead storm.
Farther west (i.e. west-central MN and far east-central ND), trends
in visible imagery across the region suggests the airmass remains
capped. Expectation is for the area to remain free of storms for the
next several hours.
