Rates will range generally from .03 inch per hour up to .10 inch per in the heavier showers. DISCUSSION...As of late morning areas of freezing rain are in progress from eastern WI through northern Lower MI. Most of this activity is occurring in association with a broad area of isentropic ascent north of a warm front situated over the OH Valley. The southerly low-level jet will increase across the great lakes today, east of a surface low that is deepening in response to an approaching shortwave trough. The low will track from northern IL through lower MI, and as the low-level jet strengthens, the temperature within the melting layers aloft will increase, resulting in freezing rain as the dominant precipitation type. Precipitation over much of this area might become more widely scattered with time due to an approaching dry slot. However, steepening mid-level lapse rates resulting from 850 mb warming beneath slight mid-level cooling will maintain the potential for local/widely scattered convectively enhanced showers. ..Dial/Hart.. 02/07/2019 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product...
