ZCZC SPCSWOMCD ALL ACUS11 KWNS 060024 SPC MCD 060024 MIZ000-WIZ000-060630- Mesoscale Discussion 0071 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0624 PM CST Tue Feb 05 2019 Areas affected...Northern Wisconsin...Upper Peninsula...and northern Michigan Concerning...Heavy snow Valid 060024Z - 060630Z SUMMARY...Heavy snow with 1-2" per hour rates are expected to develop across northern Wisconsin, the Upper Peninsula, and northern Michigan this evening. DISCUSSION...A swath of moderate to heavy snow is falling across eastern Minnesota, central/northern Wisconsin, and into Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Frontogenesis and isentropic up-glide are occurring over this region with the strongest lift located between 650 mb and 500 mb ( -5 C and -15 C). Stronger lift is located slightly farther south across southern Wisconsin/far northern Illinois where profiles are more favorable for sleet/freezing rain (see MCD 070). However, enough upward motion within the dendritic growth zone should allow 1"+ per hour snowfall rates to develop across portions of northern Wisconsin, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and northern Michigan this evening. Some local snowfall rate enhancements of 2" per hour may occur as the shortwave trough moves over the region this evening. Snow will taper off from west to east after 05z as the best defined for lifting/upward motion shift eastward across the Great Lakes region. ..Nauslar/Edwards.. 02/06/2019 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product...
