Another Deadly Overpass Refuge

This bridge, at Shields Boulevard and Interstate 35 in Moore, OK, was where another person was killed by the Bridge Creek/Moore tornado of 3 May 1999 while attempting to take refuge. Her body was found under debris over a week later. Several other people there were severely maimed by the ferocious maelstrom of flying glass, boards and sheet metal pieces. Beginning up to 15 minutes before the tornado hit, drivers had parked their cars on traffic lanes, completely blocking the freeway. This set up a deadly outdoor trap in which people were forced against their will. NWS Norman has more details on this incident.
